Quartz Countertops Will Become the Heart of the Kitchen

The kitchen might be the heart of the home, but the countertops are the heart of the kitchen. Since you always want your kitchen to look great, it’s important your counters look their absolute best. And there are few things that look better than clean quartz countertops.

Quartz is one of the more recent arrivals to the countertop world, and is known as an engineered (manmade) stone. While it might not have the natural notoriety of granite or marble, quartz has many of the same characteristics, like range of color choices, durability and such.

You’ll find quartz to be easy to maintain, thanks in part to its composition, which allows it to resist scratches, dents, scuffs, burns and other damages. The stone’s nonporous nature allows it to avoid staining, and all it takes to clean quartz is a cloth and warm, soapy water.

Quartz Countertops: Good for your Minneapolis home?

Are quartz countertops right for your Minneapolis-area home, or should you opt for a different kind of material? We took a look at the granite vs. quartz countertops issues in an article and concluded:

Each material has its individual strengths and beauty. Even though granite has come down in price as the market has seen an increase in supply and competition, it is still one of the most difficult stone materials with which to work. Always inspect the fabricator's quality of work in the showroom and any portfolios available. Due to the vast selection of slabs many fabricators will stock, it is very important to visually inspect the desired slab. The home owner may find that the slab may or may not be suitable for the size or shape needed.
It was also noted that some granite share some similarities with engineered quartz:
Some granites share qualities with engineered quartz countertops. Both are sometimes advertised as non-porous, meaning these materials will not absorb liquids, which in turn will yield superior stain resistance. There are different compositions of granite and some are more dense than others which is why there are still some, not all, forms of granite which sealing is recommended initially and then every 3 to 5 years or so.
